As you may already know, I'm a huge horror flick fan and like any true horror fan I'm always in search of the next big scare. Many moons ago, I discovered that Asian countries such as Japan, South Korea, and China know expertly how to create the perfect horror flick. They're so good in fact that we've translated them into our own American versions (ie The Ring, Shutter, The Grudge). As great as these are, why not get to the true source? If you want to experience true fear and be totally spooked, here are some excellent flicks:
This movie is all about toying with the viewers fear of the unknown. What hides beneath a kitchen sink becomes unbearably scary. The movie acheives this successfully, all simply through atmosphere without having to rely on gore which is pretty impressive. There were moments during the movie that I had to walk away because I was so creeped out.
Don't answer the phone! This story reminded me of The Ring but the plot takes unexpected turns and are tension-filled. Very twisted tale!
Forget the U.S. remake with Jessica Alba. The original version is incrediblely scary and there are some true, jump-out-of-your-seat moments, more than I ever expected. Wonderfully creepy! Watch it with the lights turned off!
This is the perfect ghost story adapted into a modern setting. After moving into an apartment building, a newly divorced mother and her daughter begin to experience odd happenings and the source may be connected to an unrelenting leak coming from their living room ceiling. Make sure to see it with someone who you can grab onto during the spooky scenes!
Lonely man seeks a companion, and when he finds her, he gets more than he could ever bargain for. The 1st part of this film works like a psychological thriller while the 2nd half transfroms into gorish nightmare (not for the squeamish!). A true horror classic!
I hope you to take a chance and watch a flick or two. Talk soon! Sue
