Tree Trimmings!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. The trip to Fort Myers was wonderful since I got to spend some long, overdue time with my family. Since I've come back from my trip, I've been working on revamping the decor of my tiny tree.

Last night I was busy making pom poms (24 to be exact!).

Then, I braided yarn of the same color scheme as my pom poms.

 

Finally, using a yarn needle I stringed my pom poms onto my braided rope (think popcorn on a string!) and made my mini garland.

Now all I need is a tree topper. Any DIY ideas? Hope your Sunday is going great! Sue

Holiday Village

I'm a true believer that decorating your home for the holidays does not have to cost an arm and leg. As lovely as all the store-bought decor is, it just can't compare to handmade! Take my holiday village. Making it only took me an afternoon (yes, you heard right!).

 I found these birdhouses at the $1 aisle of Joanns. The houses were painted with acrylics I already had at home. I glued squares of printed fabric onto two of the houses's roofs and then glittered up the roof beams.

The bottle trees were from Joanns as well and were bleached for several hours until the green was completely stripped. You can find the tute here. I then glittered up my trees (they come out a buttery color but you can always dye them to the color of your liking)

With some fabric scraps and ric rac that I had, I sewed up a placemat for my village (if you don't sew, you can always find an inexpensive one at your favorite store). This can be a pretty centerpiece for any dining room, so why not make one of your own?

Holiday Ornaments

With the holidays around the corner, I've been thinking more about creating a festive atmosphere in my tiny apartment. I dream of the day that I can make my own ornaments for my tree (there's just no space in my current abode!). Nonetheless, I can be inspired by other crafty people on the artistry of handmade tree goodies. Here are some wonderful examples of OOAK ornaments you won't find in any store. Enjoy!

Howl at the School

This year I dressed up as a werewolf at my school. Being a child of the 80s, the movie "Teen Wolf" was an inspiration and Michael J. Fox helped me channel my inner-wolf persona. I sported ray bans, a lumber jack shirt (think twilight), black jeans, and black hightop converse. My students didn't even recognize me . . . what fun!
