FlugTag had come to Miami back in 2004 and I had missed it, but I promised myself that the next tour I wouldn't miss and I kept my promise.
Just in case you don't know what I'm talking about, I'll sum it up as briefly as I can. Flugtag is an event that is sponsored by Red Bull (yeah, that drink that gives you wings). It lets anyone -crazy enough- create their own flying contraption and test it off a 30 ft high deck. Most teams don't make the distance, but it sure is fun to watch them crash into the ocean!
The event didn't start until 12 noon but most people head out early to find a good place for viewing. Unfortunately, my bf and I didn't get there until 11, so by that time it was slim pickings. Eventhough I couldn't get any decent shots of the teams launching off the deck, we did score a perfect spot right by where all the gliders were parked.
It's amazing and also a little sad to see the amount of work put into these gliders, knowing that they'll be completely decimated once they hit the water. Here are some of my best shots:
The Flying Manatee
The Chefs of the"Tossed Pizza"

Huge Beer Mug Glider

Gliding - Trailer Trash Style (one of my faves!)

Mullet Slappers

The Flying Luchadores (they showcased a wrestling match prior to their launch!)

Mario Bros-themed glider (they played the Mario Bros theme song and the team were all dressed as different MB characters - it was really cute!)

Tent Glider (made from bamboo, beautifully structured!)
I hope you enjoyed the pics. I loved every minute of Flugtag. To my dismay, we did have to leave early (the scorching heat was just unbearable!), so we didn't get to see all 30 teams fly (!).
