Happy Sunday everyone! As promised, here's a quick and easy tutorial on creating your own personalized gift tags. This is a great way to recycle your old greeting cards, fabric and trim scraps, and cardstock leftovers . . . enjoy!
This cute lil' project requires the following materials:
1- fabric scraps 2- pencil 3- fine-point permanent marker 4- hole puncher 5- pinking sheers 6- paper scissors 7- old greeting cards 8- silk ribbon scrap 9- leftover cardstock 10- clothes tag
Steps:
- Cut the 2nd page of an old greeting card (the illustrated page I save for scrapbooking projects). As a template for your gift tag, an old clothes tag works well.
- Trace as many tags as they can fit onto the greeting card and then cut each one out. A regular size greeting card normally yields about 6 gift tags.
- Punch holes into each tag, you may use a ruler to center each hole (i like to eyeball it!). I like to clip diagonally the top corners off like the store-bought shipping tags, but you can also leave it as is.
- To personalize the gift tag, take a colored permanent marker and write the recipient's name on a small rectangle of cardstock.
- Overlay the fabrics scraps to your liking onto your gift tag. Allow enough fabric to hang over the tag (enough to pink the edges!)
- Sew the scraps, name and gift tag together, stitching along the perimeter of the tag and then the name. If you don't have a sewing machine, just spray a light coat of adhesive to the tag and add on your scraps, then glue the name to the tag.
- Once everything is sewn, clean up your tag, clipping away any thread tails. Pink the edges all around your tag. Finally, take your ribbon scrap and tie it on.
You'll make these tags in no time. I like to cut up a bunch of tags in advance and then embellish them as I need them. Hope you've enjoyed my DIY. Happy crafting! Sue
